The Department of Agriculture Poonch, Sub-division Poonch organized one day seminar cum training programme at Chief Agriculture Office Complex Poonch for promotion of Organic farming under Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojna (PKVY).
In the event, 60 Numbers of farmers from the already identified organic clusters of sub-division Poonch were imparted training regarding organic farming, use of bio pesticides and fertilizers, sustainable agriculture practices to enhance their commercial viability and improve farming methods
Chief Agriculture Officer Poonch, Rakesh Kumar Sharma while interacting with the farmers briefed the farmers about the transformational changes through Holistic Agriculture development Programme (HADP), Kisan Khidmat Ghars and all other flagship schemes of the department brought in through Agriculture sector. He also urged the farmers to judiciously utilize the available resources for practicing organic farming to gain maximum profitability while highlighting the introduction of Prime Minister Fasal Bhima Yojna (PMFBY) which is a government sponsored crop insurance scheme for providing financial support to the farmers suffering crop loss/damage rising out of unforeseen events. During the seminar, control measures for weed growth especially Congress grass were also discussed with the farmers. which has now become a concerning menace for the farmers.
Speaking at the event, S Charanjeet Singh Raina, Sub-divisional Agriculture officer Poonch gave a brief description about the event and informed the farmers that the training is aimed for enhancing knowledge and skills of farmers in organic farming. He highlighted the importance of sustainable practices that not only will increase agriculture productivity and profitability for farmers but also help in conserving the environment especially in lieu of climate change. He also informed the farmers regarding the establishment of Kisan Khidmat Ghars one of which is established at Panchayat Jhullas for providing essential services directly at farmers’ doorstep ensuring last mile delivery of extension services to them.
During the event, questionnaire sessions and practical training sessions on how to implement organic farming techniques effectively, focusing on improving soil health, reducing chemical use and adopting integrated pest management were also conducted. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts promoted by the Government of India on large scale to explore innovative techniques that can be integrated into current agricultural practices supporting local
farmers in transitioning to more sustainable and profitable farming practices.
Subject Matter Specialist, Sub-division Poonch S Davinder Singh also spoke during
the event and highlighted the importance of Organic farming in the present scenario. The other officers and officials of the sub-division Poonch also shared their insights on promoting Organic
farming in the District.
