Announcement of dates is ECI’s prerogative, hopeful that Assembly Polls will soon be held in J&K: LG Sinha

Jammu|Aug, 11:  Asserting that the announcement for the election dates is the sole prerogative of the Election Commission of India (ECI), Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said he is hopeful that the Assembly Polls will soon be held in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Things are taking place in the Union Territory as per the sequence as first delimitation, then Assembly polls, and then Statehood,” Sinha told reporters at the sidelines of an event at the University of Jammu.

He stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Srinagar on International Yoga Day had already said that the Assembly Elections will be held soon in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sinha said that the ECI team had recently visited Jammu and Kashmir and met the political parties and all stakeholders and after taking all the considerations, they returned to Delhi.

“As the Union Home Minister in the Parliament had said Delimitation first, Assembly elections then followed by statehood on an appropriate time,” said the Lieutenant Governor adding that things in Jammu and Kashmir are taking place as per the sequence.

“We are hopeful that the Assembly elections will soon be held in Jammu and Kashmir,” said Sinha.

Sinha on Sunday inaugurated the newly constructed building of the Malaviya Mission Teachers Training Centre (MMTTC) at the University of Jammu.
