Poonch: Red Ribbon Club in collaboration with Department of Zoology Govt. Degree College Surankote successfully hosted a one-day symposium on the topic “Prevention of sexually transmitted diseases through education and awareness with special reference to AIDS” with the goal of increasing awareness, promoting education, and fostering open discussions surrounding the challenges and preventive measures related to STDs. The symposium aimed to empower students and faculty with the knowledge and resources to make informed choices regarding their sexual health. Worthy principal Govt. Degree College Surankote Prof. (Dr.) Rani Mughal Madam was chief guest in the Symposium and Prof. Wajahat Hussain was guest of honor in the Symposium. This programme is being organized in a series of weeklong programme activities being organized to celebrate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Many Students actively participated by delivering presentations on STD prevention strategies, awareness campaigns, and community outreach initiatives. These presentations showcased the creativity and commitment of the student body in addressing the issue of STDs within the college community. Among all the Student speakers Leesha Fatima, Ruksana Kouser and Samreen Afzal stood 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the Symposium respectively. Prof. Javid Iqbal, Prof. Tabbarak Amin Khan and Dr. Mohd Yaqoob Dar were judges in the programme who engaged in open conversations, providing valuable insights and practical advice to the student speakers. The discussions emphasized the importance of breaking the silence surrounding STDs and encouraging responsible behaviour.
Principal Dr. Rani Mughal Madam appreciated the students for knowledgeable presentation and encourage them to participate in curricular and extracurricular activities. It is pertinent to mention the Principal GDC Surankote who is renowned academician and researcher known as ‘Tree Women’ for her research and passion for protection and preservations of floral diversity of Pir Panjal region. She is known for her impeccable personal and professional integrity and her dedication for the overall development of GDC Surankote.
Mr. Ashiq Khalifa conducted the proceedings of the programme and Fara Batool and Khalida Kouser presented a floral welcome to Principal Madam. Dr. Abdul Ghani Department of Zoology was appreciated for managing the programme. Prof. Fateh Mohmmad Abbasi HOD Zoology who was organizing secretary presented formal vote of thanks on the occasion.
