Poonch landscape artist (Husnain Ahmed Kazmi) captures nature with brush, earns accolades

Upholding his passion for art while breathing life into canvas through his extraordinary talent, Husnain Kazmi, a landscape artist captures the essence of natural beauty using his brush strokes . Hailing from the picturesque district of Poonch, Hussain’s artistic endeavors have garnered appreciation from various quarters, reflecting the recognition of his talent and dedication in the art community.

A student at Government Degree College Surankote Hussain Kazmi commenced his artistic journey in painting almost seven years back, showcasing a keen interest in the craft since early childhood. “ I could not express it until I joined Higher Secondary school in 2017 and I participated in a painting competition. I was appreciated by the teachers for my painting skills,” he said.

A resident of Mohra Bachhai village on Surankote tehsil, Kazmi’s talent motivated his teacher Tariq Mehmood Saifi, who provided guidance and support to nurture his artistic pursuits. Later, he actively participated in Kala Utsav-2022, an initiative by the Ministry of Education, Government of India where students from all corners of the country showcased their exceptional artistic skills.

He represented the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir at the national level. “It was an opportunity to showcase the talent to people outside, which gave me exposure,” he said.

Kazmi said apart from appreciation and encouragement artists need financial support so that they can excel and showcase their talent at the national and international platforms.

He expressed that his inspiration for painting stems from the breathtaking landscapes of Poonch and the Pir Panjal ranges.

Kazmi’s artistic themes predominantly revolve around nature and its intrinsic beauty, capturing the essence of the rich and diverse natural surroundings that have influenced his work. “I love to paint natural beauty which attracts me the most,” he said.

For him art of painting is the most expressive and lively medium for human feelings and creative impulses. “Paintings are essentially fragile works that rarely have longevity, especially in a region like Jammu and Kashmir, which has unsuitable climatic conditions,” he said.

Kazmi has some of the best paintings at home with thought-provoking artworks and he keeps adding more and more paintings in it. So far he has made more than 50 unique artworks for which he has earned immense appreciation.

“Where there is will there is a way. Youth who are interested in art should use and take advantage of the online resources including YouTube and learn from the same,” he said.
