Launch Of PM Vishwakarma Scheme At Govt Women ITI Surankote

As a strategic step towards implementation of the PM Vishwakarma by the J&K UT administration in January 2024 by becoming the first UT in the country to implement the PM Vishwakarma Yojna (PMVY).

In continuation to its efforts by the Directorate of Skill Development, J&K and District Administration, Poonch Sh. Sandesh Kumar Sharma, JKAS (ADDC, Poonch ) today inaugurated the first batch of 30 trainees of Tailor (Darzi) at Govt. Women Industrial Training Institute Surankote. Sh Sandesh Kumar Sharma , ADDCC interacted with the PM Vishwakarma trainees and laid emphasis on their commitment to impart quality skill to the youth and focus on the quote by Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi “HUNAR SE HOGA DESH KA NAVNIRMAAN”. While addressing the trainees he said that the scheme will be highly beneficial as it will honour and empower the artisans who immensely contribute towards the economy and this scheme aims to make stronger entrepreneurs who run small enterprises / business units. He also appreciated the efforts of Superintendent ITI Surankote Er. Rajesh Gupta and his team to make this event successful.

Sh. Khalid Hussain, General Manager DIC Poonch briefed the aims and objectives of the scheme for recognition of artisans through PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card.. The training is initially for five days & advance training of 15 days for desirous Vishwakarmas. During training period each registered Vishwakarma is entitled for a stipend of Rs 500/- per day with a Tool kit grant of Rs 15000/-. Credit support of Rs 3 lacs in two trenches is admissible to the registered Vishwakarma on concessional interest rate of 5%. Incentive for Digital Transaction and Marketing Support.

Dr. Mohammad Asghar, Chairman IMC ITI Surankote also highlighted the key points of PM Vishwakarama Scheme. He encouraged the trainees to think innovative ideas and implement in real life to earn their livelihood and boost the economy. The PM Vishwakarma trainees shall be assessed on the 40 hours of basic training being provided. This will be done on the modern tools, their usage covered over the training period and his knowledge of digital and financial literacy, branding and marketing, self-employment modules.

He also stated that J&K becomes 7th Rank for implementation of PM Vishwakarma Scheme. The training is initially for five days & advance training of 15 days for desirous Vishwakarmas. Mr. Javaid Ahmed, Superintendent ITI Poonch briefed the activities and initiatives taken by Directorate of Skill Development too improve quality training and skill in whole JK (UT). He also highlighted the aim of this scheme i.e. to turn today’s artisans into big entrepreneurs of tomorrow.

Mr. Niyaz Ahmed , Superintendent ITI Nowsehra also briefed the scheme and appreciated the efforts taken by UT Administration as well as Directorate of Skill Development for successful implementation of PM Vishwakarma scheme. He said this scheme focuses on providing the traditional workers, craftsmen and artisans from around the country with socio-economic support so as to strengthen these artists and their art forms. However, it is not only the tangible support, the symbolic features of the scheme also help the Indian crafts and craftsmen shine brighter than ever!

Er. Rajesh Gupta, Superintendent Women ITI, Surankote briefed the activities during the training from Day 0 to Day 6 and commit to provide all trade related assistance by the certified experience trainers. The scheme helps to revive these traditional art forms through skill upgradation and the use of modern technology. The scheme aims to support these craftsmen with better and more modern tools as well as to make their work more efficient. The training and financial aid provided to these workers will help bridge the gap between conventional arts and modern technology.
