SURANKOTE
In response to the upcoming parliamentary elections, Deputy Commissioner Poonch, acting on instructions from the Election Commissioner, has mandated the surrender of licensed firearms in Surankote. A recent order directs citizens to deposit their bore guns and licensed pistols at the Surankote Police Station. The initiative aims to ensure a peaceful electoral process by mitigating the potential for violence. To date, authorities have collected a total of 566 weapons, encompassing both 12 bore guns and licensed pistols. Those failing to comply with the directive face legal repercussions, including the filing of FIRs against individuals found in possession of weapons during the electoral period. This concerted effort underscores the commitment to maintaining law and order throughout the election proceedings in Surankote.
