Weatherman predicts, further monsoon showers, potential risks in Jammu region
Ganderbal, Aug 04 (KB): A cloudburst struck the Cherwan Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, causing significant damage to local paddy fields and leaving several vehicles stranded in debris, reports said here on Sunday.
The heavy rainfall also led to water entering residential areas, exacerbating the situation for the local population.
According to the details available with the Kashmir Bulletin (KB), the SSG road near Padawbal has been blocked due to an overflowing canal, resulting in the accumulation of mud on the road and rendering it impassable for vehicles.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.
The incident follows a weather forecast issued by independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif Keng, which was accessed by KB, reads he predicted possible showers in parts of the Jammu region, particularly in higher areas near the Pir Panjal and other mountainous ranges, on August 3rd.
Moreover, for the upcoming days, from August 4th to 5th, the forecast indicates potential monsoon showers in many areas of the Jammu region, though no widespread spells are expected. It also notes that the period between 17:00 to 19:00 may experience dry weather.
The forecast also highlighted certain risks associated with the weather conditions, such as flash floods due to intense showers or cloudbursts in vulnerable areas, particularly those near mountains, and the likelihood of shooting stones along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and other roads.—(KB)
