August 03, 2024: NSS unit, NCC wing, Department of Physics, Economics and English of GDC Surankote jointly organized a noteworthy one-day seminar on three new criminal laws as part of the Swachhata Pakhwada initiative. The event was meticulously coordinated under the skilled leadership of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Rani Mughal.
The event was honored by the presence of son of soil Jenab Parvaiz Iqbal Hon’ble Principal and District Sessions Judge Kulgam who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Among the notable attendees were Jenab Wajahat Hussain Kazmi Sub-judge Surankote, Dr. Aurangzeb Anjum Coordinator IQAC & HOD Zoology SKC GDC Poonch, Jenab Ajaz Ahmed SDPO Surankote, Dr. Mohd Yousaf BMO Surankote, Jenab Zia-ur-Rehman Chief Prosecuting officer Kulgam and Advocate Basit Ali Zargar who served as guest of honour. Additionally, Jenab Shafiq Mughal Lecturer in Political Science Govt. Model HSS Boys Surankote and Miss Rukhsar Mughal Social Activist Poonch who participated as special guests.
Pertinent to mention that besides students of GDC Surankote, the students of Model Boys Higher Secondary school Surankote and Model Girls Higher Secondary school Surankote also attended the seminar.
The program kicked off with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony conducted by the distinguished guests followed by chanting of the National Anthem. Prof. Fateh Mohammad Abassi gave a brief introduction to the program and Prof. Abdul Karim Bajran IQAC Coordinator delivered the opening address extending a warm welcome to the esteemed dignitaries. Prof. Fatima NSS PO skillfully hosted the entire event which was convened by Dr. Rizwan Ahmed Khan (Convenor) and Prof. Adan Ali Shah (Member).
Jenab Parvaiz Iqbal the Hon’ble Principal and District Sessions Judge of Kulgam delivered a heartfelt speech. He praised the principal for her significant role in shaping the institution and encouraged students to explore their talents and engage in self-discovery, emphasizing the importance of hard work. He cited examples of Michael Phelps and Michael Jordan to illustrate his points. Additionally, he discussed recent developments in criminal law.
Dr. Aurangzeb Anjum Coordinator IQAC & HOD Zoology SKC GDC Poonch in his brief speech also praised the Principal for her work. He emphasized that criminals are getting modernized so must get the law.
Jenab Wajahat Hussain Kazmi, the Sub-judge of Surankote, served as the keynote speaker at the event. He discussed the three new criminal laws of the Indian Constitution in a manner that made them easily understandable, even for those without a legal background. He broke down the complexities of the legal language, providing clear examples and analogies that related to everyday experiences.
Jenab Zia-ur-Reham the Chief Prosecuting Officer Kulgam discussed the fundamentals of law, its meaning, and its necessity. He emphasized the importance of understanding the changes being implemented both on an individual and collective level.
In her presidential address, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Rani Mughal expressed her gratitude to all the distinguished guests for attending the program. She encouraged the students of Higher Secondaries to pursue higher education and prefer enrolling at GDC Surankote. She also mentioned plans to continue inviting students from feeder higher secondary schools to future programs and workshops. This initiative aims to familiarize them with the college’s facilities and motivate them to take admission at GDC Surankote.
